A Strange Sargasso Sea Appendix N

How's that for narrow focus? I've done a nautical fantasy inspiration list before, but that's no reason not to focus on a particularly weird subgenre.

Literature:
William Hope Hodgson has got a whole series of Sargasso Sea stories beyond his famous novel The Boats of the "Glen Carrig."  Here's "The Thing in the Weeds," "The Finding of The Graiken," and "From the Tideless Sea" online.
Kenneth Robeson. The Adventures of Doc Savage: The Sargasso Ogre.

Film:
The Lost Continent (1968).

TV:
Jonny Quest (1964), "The Mystery of the Lizard Men."

Roleplaying Game Stuff:
Dungeon #141, "The Sea Wyvern's Wake."
Islands of Terror (1992) for the Ravenloft campaign setting.

You are taking me back a ways with these titles Trey.

Maybe The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis?

You continue to speak my language!

The Hodgson stories were what kicked off my ideas for Blighter's Manse. Well, those and Black Sails.

I suspect Black Sails provided mt initial impetus to do something piratical in gaming, too.

@jbeltman - Is there a Sargasso sea in there? It's been so long.

@Tim - They call it old school for a reason. ;)

Hodgson's stories are excellent. His Mystery of the Derelict is pretty good too. Nice to to see Johnny Quest in there are well, a real classic. Did you consider any of the 'non-fiction' Bermuda Triangle stuff like Charles Berlitz wrote in the seventies?

I fully approve of all of this! In addition I think that pretty much every episode of the original Jonny Quest series is an awesome resource to steal ideas and plots from, for a pulpy game. I've done it several times.

There is an old Popye "big little" book that has an adventure in a mass of sargasso trapped ships.
